On Saturday, April 16, 2011, the Creekside YMCA invites kids and parents to make a “play date” for Healthy Kids Day™. As the leading nonprofit for strengthening community, the Y holds Healthy Kids Day to bring families together to engage in fun, active play and learn healthier habits that help them grow and thrive. Activities are free and open to all.
Healthy Kids Day will be held at the South Montgomery County Creekside YMCA Outdoor Adventure Center. Activities could include open house, tours, face art, moon walk, fingerprinting, arts/crafts, Alpine Tower, Giant Swing, demos, community booths, mascots, giveaways, games, screenings, health/safety fair, kite making, outdoor education, eco art, summer program registrations, door prizes, refreshments, music and much more! The first 300 Kids in attendance will receive a Healthy Kids Day T-shirt!
April 16th is also the kick off for summer with Super Summer Sign Up Day featuring information and activities on YMCA summer programs: Day Camp, Swim Lessons, Youth Sports, Sports Clinics, Teen Camp, Child Care, Performing Arts and more. With each summer program registration, participants will receive a free gift!

A gala in The Woodlands raised over $625,000 for the American Heart Association.
The American Heart Association's Montgomery County Division raised over $625,000 during its annual Heart Ball in February.
The Heart Ball Gala, co-chaired by Carol Garner and Soly Lachterman to raise funds for research and education of cardiovascular diseases, took place on Feb. 19 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center.

Are you seeing GREEN this time of year- not from St. Patrick's Day, but from the tree pollin that has settled all over your patio furnishings? Don't dispair! Sunbrella fabrics are to the rescue! These great fabrics clean up like a dream, and that green stuff will be gone in no time! Sunbrella offers velvets, chenilles, jacquards and more all which make the outdoor fabrics now look like lush indoor fabrics! To clean Sunbrella fabrics, there are many options. You can spot clean, hand wash, machine wash or even get out stubborn stains with a solution of bleach and water. Do not dry clean them however! Sunbrella fabrics have a special finish that enhances water repellency, and this finish will last for several years. This finish can also be refreshed with 303 High Tech Fabric Guard after a thorough cleaning. I just finished cleaning my own cushions, and they look as good as new, even after being outdoors for several years now. I simply took the inserts out, and popped them into the washing machine. By putting the covers back onto the inserts wet, the covers dry perfectly to the shape of the insert, and they look fabulous. Sunbrella fabrics are so great due to their colorfastness. Superior Sunbrella color pigments are added during the production of fade-resistant Sunbrella fiber. The end result is Sunbrella yarn and fabric with color throughout that won't fade or wash away – even with extreme exposure to the sun or cleaning with bleach! Sunbrella says it like this: think of a carrot with color through to the core that can't be peeled away. In ordinary fabrics, dyes are added to the surface of the yarn or fabric. The color only penetrates the outer layer and washes out or fades away over time. Think of a radish which is red outside but white in the middle. The color in Sunbrella fabrics penetrates all the way to the core, ensuring years of vibrant color and performance.
Sunbrella fabrics are also great to use indoors for very durable and super cleanable upholstery, drapery, bedding and more. The other great news, is that Sunbrella fabrics are fully recyclable, and they have received the GREENGUARD certification meaning that they contribute to healthy indoor air. I recently went to hear Joe Ruggiero, designer & HGTV star speak about how he uses Sunbrella fabrics for his new indoor furniture line, and the look is truly beautiful.

What’s popular in kitchen and bath design? Survey says…

If you believe what they say about the past—and this may also apply to the immediate past—being a good predictor of future behavior, then you may want to pay close attention to the results of the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s (NKBA’s) annual survey of kitchen and bath design trends. Participating in the survey were more than 100 designers who are association members and have designed kitchens and/or bathrooms during the last three months of 2010. Although the survey findings may not reflect activity in all parts of the country, several commonalities did emerge, indicating that changes in kitchen and bath styles are afoot in this new year.
10 KITCHEN TRENDS
1. Shake it up. Although the popularity of the Shaker style began in 2009, it truly gained momentum in 2010. By the end of the year, it overtook contemporary as the second most popular style used by NKBA member designers, which, given its versatility, may not come as a huge surprise. Here’s the breakdown:
