Three markets down and we are ready for Spring! The store is brimming with great new fabrics, accessories, furniture and rugs! We now have several new lines including Massoud, Wesley Hall and Emerson et. Cie fine furniture. Great new accessories and exquisite art are arriving daily. Here are my 6 favorite market finds that are in-store at Woodlands Fabrics & Interiors now:
1) Italian Turquoise pottery. Distressed and glazed, this pottery gives a fresh punch to any room.
2) Hand Painted furniture with a flair. This console makes a statement and has great lines that are not too serious.
3) Gorgeous Needlepoint pillows in fresh colors.
4) NDI Water garden floral arrangements look so real and they last forever!
5) Comfortable upholstered furniture for formal rooms. Have the formal look with lush comfort along the way!
6) Large Scale fabrics in glorious, artful patterns. These large-scale patterns are great for pillows, draperies and bedding. Even upholstery pieces are featuring these bold patterns.

My Top 5 Christmas Decorating Tips

Wow it has been a busy holiday season so far! With our first Christmas installations going in the week after Halloween the holiday season has already gone by so fast. I have been very blessed to have so much talented help from our staff to help make our clients’ homes a beautiful reflection of the season. I thought I would share this month my top 5 favorite decorating techniques we use to create a beautiful Christmas tree.
The size of the tree needs to complement the size of the room.
1. Scale is everything. If you have a tree that is over 7’ tall, large ornaments are a must! We use ornaments that range in size from 8” to 12” for these large trees. Of course you can fill in with the smaller ornaments, but the large-scale items balance the scale of the tree. Also, the scale of the tree needs to be appropriate with the size of the room.

2. Floral Stems & beautiful ribbon are a must. What a great way to add dimension to a tree. We use stems throughout the tree and in the topper. Don’t limit these stems to just Christmas ones. We use an array of beautiful flowers including hydrangeas, poppies, roses and more. Feathers, twigs and grapevine are also fun to use. Wide, thick-wired ribbon is a wonderful way to fill in the tree with softness. We love to use 3 different ribbons on a tree including the great wide mesh gold ribbon that has fabulous movement to it.
Add dimension to your tree by adding floral stems and beautiful ribbon.
3. Go for drama at the top of the tree. If you have a theme, incorporate a large item from your theme into the top of the tree. We wire Angels, deer, Santa’s, peacocks, pheasants, etc. under or in the topper for drama.

4. The base of the tree is just as important as the top. We love to use 4-5 yards of faux mink wrapped around the base of the tree for a quick and beautiful tree skirt. We also love tree bases that elevate the tree and add a touch of drama to the base. We have these in stock now!

5. Have a “Family tree” to showcase sentimental and special family ornaments in your family or game room. Many of our clients want a formal, beautiful tree but are hesitant to stop using those special ornaments that have so much sentimental value. A family room or game room is a great place for the kids to have their own special tree to decorate and showcase their homemade ornaments. Adding leopard ribbons, streamers and fun balls are a great way to spice up the family tree!

2009 Texas Star Award for Best Interior Merchandising of a Custom Home under $1 million.
We’re excited to announce that one of our clients was honored on Friday, October 30th with the Texas Star Award for Best Interior Merchandising of a Custom Home under $1 million.
The home’s spectacular window coverings and master suite bedding were designed by Woodlands Fabrics and Interiors.
“This home was designed to take full advantage of this wooded and private home site,” according to company president David Perry of Ryan Custom Homes. “Every interior detail reflects the home owners wishes and the home is both beautiful and very functional.”
The Star awards were held in conjunction with the Texas Association of Builder’s Sunbelt Builders show held in Grapevine, Texas. The 2009 Star Awards showcased the outstanding work of developers, builders, remodelers, architects, designers, sales professionals, marketing professionals, construction professionals and industry leaders in Texas and the Southwest.

It's time to get your home ready for the Holiday Season
It is so hard to believe that Summer is gone! It seems to go by faster and faster every year. Shorter days ahead, a relief from the heat and busy children all bring about a new schedule and new priorities. A change of season always brings the desire out in me to clean out, organize, de-clutter and re-arrange things. I absolutely love change. It keeps things fresh and new.
With the change into the fall season, I realize the importance of September. September is the BEST month of the year for planning! I know, it’s supposed to be January with all of the New Years resolutions that will change your life, but September really is the best. Cool mornings to sit outside and reflect, quiet moments while the kids are in school & beautiful fall foliage, all get me in the reflective & planning frame of mind. Now is the time to start planning for your family and friends that will be visiting for the holidays. Now is the time to lay the plans out for those holiday parties. I’m not talking specifics about menus and party favors. I am talking about plans for what needs to be done to have your home looking fabulous for your holidays, parties & guests.
The most common decorating mistakes I see are from rash decisions that people have made in a hurry to get things in place for a party or out of town guests.
